Censorship is the younger of two shameful sisters, the older is called the Inquisition.
Censorship is the living admission of the rulers that they can only kick dumbed-down slaves but cannot rule free peoples.
Johann Nestroy
(Austrian Dramatist, satirist and actor, 1801 – 1862)
The works of Cuts and Pieces are located at the oscillating interface between pop and street.
On the one hand, the Cologne artist often uses the technical means of Street Art, such as spray paint and stencils, and on the other hand, he visualizes pop cultural aesthetics. Again, mostly
pop-cultural contents of film, advertising and comics are the essential basis for his transformations and recontextualizations of these contents into often collaged artworks in the sense of urban
Street Art.
In this process, both content-related references to the pop-cultural past find attention in his works, as well as the processing of current trends and events.
Often, it is precisely through the deliberate, also digitally processed clash of content, aesthetics and themes of different pop culture eras of the last sixty to seventy years that new,
refreshing contexts of meaning emerge, which almost without exception reveal an immanent humor, which in turn reveals a playful joy in the also absurd juggling with developments of our
present.
